Hello, there! Maggie here. I was scheduled to be put down at the kill shelter when my adorable little face made its way through the ranks. I was so sweet and friendly, no one could fathom anything happening to me '| and now it never will. I just arrived at rescue and still need to be properly vetted, but we wanted everyone to know I am safe and sound here '| and am an absolute joy. It took forever to take pics of me because all I wanted to do was kiss everyone I saw. Even between kisses, I was kissing myself!

Carter (Mr. Ca-ter) here '| I was red-listed at the kill shelter when tons of people rallied to save me with pledges. Our website chick kept seeing my sad face pop up again and again and couldn't respond with the usual response that we are at our winter capacity. She didn't realize I only looked sad because I wanted to be put down on the floor to run like a wild man! I know how to work this sad face to my advantage '| and it saved my life! She decided to call in her rare card and have Mama Donna pull me. They thought I was 7 years old at the shelter. Yeah, no '|. Doc says I look fantastic and am only 2-3 years old at the most. I'm ... (Read More)heartworm negative, but have kennel cough, so I'm being kept separated for now. I'll need to be neutered, but other than that, I'll be ready to go. I love everyone I meet and am fine with other dogs. I weigh about 12 lbs. I could use a pound or two, but I'm still as cute as they come! (Less)

Hi, fine peoples! L'il Benji here. I know what your'e thinking: 'That ain't no Jack.' No, I'm not, but I was saved by a volunteer here who loves Jacks %BD'%BD| and all dogs for that matter. My family wasn't taking care of me. I was matted, covered in fleas, and roaming the neighborhood, looking for fun. They decided to let me go and find a better home with someone who will love me. Since then, I have been groomed and now look ever-so-handsome. I've had all my shots and tested negative for heartworm (yay!). Unfortunately, I have a hernia that needs to be removed, my teeth need to be cleaned for the first time ever, and I will need to be ... (Read More)'tutored' before I can leave. We just wanted the world to know I'm here and I'm happy. I'm a young, very sweet boy %BD'%BD| and very active. I love playing, belly scratches, treats and (ohhhhh, yeah!) dancing. We'll have to get a video of that soon! (Less)

Chinese Crested Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults

Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Hello, everyone. Thelma here. Yes, I am newbie here and, yes, I am absolutely precious. I was in foster care for awhile because I had a nasty case of kennel cough after leaving the shelter. I was listed as a Terrier, but the folks here think I'm more of a Chinese Crested Powder Puff mix whose fur is not as luxurious as it should be (we're working on that). They said they don't really care what I am; they just love me for who I am and they want to find me a forever home. The shelter initially thought I was around 10 years old, but vet says I'm younger - possibly 6-7. I weigh a whole 12 lbs. You can almost put me in your pocket! ;) I am a ... (Read More)little shy when first meeting people, but can easily be won over by a treat. Once I'm comfortable, I can run like the wind and I love to play. I love all people and have no problem with other dogs. I just let them be, if they don't like me %BD'%BD| but what's not to like? If you would like an easygoing, sweet senior who loves to be held or sits on your lap, I'm your girl! (Less)

Howdy, y'all! Mavis here. I know, I know, I'm adorable! At least, that's what they all keep telling me here %BD'%BD| I recently arrived from the kill shelter, and they haven't stopped cooing over me. What can I say, I'm a young, friendly, fun girl who is full of puppy energy and likes to give kisses. I am spayed, house trained, up-to-date on all of my shots and get along great with children. What's not to love?! Just one thing, unfortunately %BD'%BD| I am heartworm positive and will need to be treated. Like my kennel mates in the same situation (Zeus and Duke), I would do best in a foster home to heal and get ready for my forever ... (Read More)home.     Hi, folks! Let me introduce myself '| My name is Duke, and I am about the sweetest thing you'll ever meet. I arrived from the kill shelter in July 2014 and, like many dogs who first land at rescue, was in need of some TLC. I'm about 5-6 years old and short, but was a hefty 20+ lbs, so we had to take off some weight '| while we put my fur back on! I had quite a bit of hair loss (due to fleas and/or allergies) on my back and tail. In fact, they were calling me a 'little lion' because I only had a tuft of hair at the end of my long tail when I arrived. Some fabulous ointment and a new diet have helped take care of all of that, and I look ... (Read More)positively adorable now! I am now in a wonderful foster home with my foster brother Murray and sister Sophie. I love being with people again and can't wait to find my forever home. My foster mom Ava has been giving me lots of love and taking me on trips to PetSmart and other places to share my handsome availability. I'm now neutered, up-to-date on all of my shots and ready to roll home with you. As you can see, I'm fine with other dogs. I just love to be me. (Less)

Hello, world! I'm Floyd. If you follow Dekalb Rescue's page, you may have seen the 'heartbreaking' photo of me in July of 2014. I ended up at the shelter at 12 years old with cataracts and a heart murmur and lots of fine folks set out to share and plea for a rescue for me. One of those pleas made it to these folks and, well, you know the soft spot they have for older guys and gals like me. I have been in foster care since being saved and am doing great. My foster mom has 'forever fostered' several seniors and special-needs dogs like myself over the years for rescue, including Jerry Lee. She said she's willing to do it again for me. Yippee! ... (Read More)But we know there are plenty of other big-hearted people out there who have a soft spot for guys like me, so we're sharing my story in hopes that maybe I'll find a forever home and/or a sponsor. My foster mom says I'm a great little dog. I've already learned my way around the house, inside and out. I can follow voices, am house-trained and well-behaved. I get along great with all of the people and other dogs here. Doc says I'm in pretty good health. I definitely needed a dental, which I just had (see my pic of me comforting my foster brother, who had bladder stone surgery). I could possibly be a candidate for cataracts surgery, if someone was willing to help me with it. I know that's a lot to ask, but I believe in miracles. After all, I'm here! (Less)

Whadda ya mean, 'I ain't no Jack!' I, like all of these little brown and white dogs around me, was a rescue five years ago when someone very close to Mama Donna scooped me up and showed me love like I've never known. I spent my formative years, sleeping in bed with my young mom and discovering the wonders of the world. Unfortunately, my mama is now going through some stuff during which she can no longer keep me.     Hi, there! I woke up at the Fayette County Shelter known as Dodger in late July. My listing said I was not able to relax or trust people and I was 'not showing well.' That lasted until about 11 o'clock when two lovely ladies from Georgia Jack Russell Rescue showed up to meet me and see what I am really like. They did all kinds of 'tests' and, apparently, I passed them with flying colors because they 'sprung' me from that place within an hour. They renamed me Eddie because, well, we already have a gorgeous Dodger at rescue now and they thought I needed a 'handsome name' that accentuated my 'Jack Russelll'ness.' After they sprung me, they ... (Read More)took me to 'the vets' and did more tests on me. Once again, I passed this thing known as the 'heartworm test' with flying colors. They were really excited about that. I guess a lot of dogs from the shelter like me don't pass that one, but I did. Woohoo! I'm now at this place they call 'the ranch' and ready for a new home. They are pretty certain I had a house at one point because I'm 'kind of' housebroken and I can sit like a pro for treat. My focus is pretty incredible, even with distractions like other dogs around me. I'm very smart and could possibly learn agility or other sports. The vet says I'm about 6 years old, not hyper but not lazy - I am the (dare I say it?) perfect Jack! I even get along well with other dogs '| especially the girls. ;) (Less)

Howdy, folks! 'Sparky the Fire Dog' here. I was adopted from the kill shelter with my scruffy Jack Russell sister Roxy (who has already been adopted), then returned for a reason the people here don't know why. They just knew what that meant for me: I would be redlined and put down immediately. I was so sweet and gentle and wonderful and '| hey '| how could I not go on to touch everyone's hearts? Nope, I couldn't. I'm a very young (only about a year or two) boy who is very submissive. So submissive that I really didn't want to stand up for photos. I was much more comfortable being in Mama Donna's arms and/or rolling over for belly ... (Read More)scratches. I also like to dig. We're going to work on my insecurities and turn me into a confident, young man. If you're interested in doing so for or with us, we would love that, too! I'm neutered and have had all my shots, but my previous family didn't think heartworm testing was important. Yeah, don't get us started on that. I still need to be tested for that, but am ready to go otherwise. (Less)

Hello, world! Gorgeous Sasha here. In May of 2014, several members of Team Russell (our volunteer group) saw me in a shelter photo and it broke their hearts. I was with my one surviving puppy (I had already lost two). I was terrified, scared of the fate of my puppy and me. The look on my face was so hopeless. The rescue was in no position to take on another dog at the time, much less a mama/puppy, but they couldn't stand the thought of us perishing at the shelter. Some phone calls were made between all the right people, and we both were pulled and taken to temporary foster care. My baby grew up and has gone on to a forever home '| and ... (Read More)now I am here, looking for mine. I am still settling in and am a little shy with people and protective around dogs. That comes from taking care of my babies. I'm sure I will adjust just fine, though, in the hands of anyone who has had a Terrier mama. They are spending a little time, getting to know me better and making sure I'm healthy and ready to go, but we wanted everyone to know that I'm safe and sound. I'm a beautiful, young girl (probably only about a year or two and the average 14-15 Jack lbs.) and I can't wait for the next chapter in my life. (Less)

Compatibility: Good w/ Male Dogs Only, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Very Submissive
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current, Abused/Neglected,
 Fearful/Anxious

Hello, big world. Hannah here. My profile is new to the website, but I'm not. I have been with the rescue since April of 2013 when several of my kennel mates and I were saved from a rescue that had neglected us. We saw many of our friends lose their lives before we were saved, but we were the lucky ones '| or so I was told. I sure didn't feel so lucky back then. My kennel mate, whom I really trusted, was taken from me during the seizure, and I ended up at the rescue, alone and terrified. For three months, Mama Donna and the volunteers tried to get me to trust them, but I spent most of my time running in circles in my kennel, wondering ... (Read More)what was going to happen. I had been betrayed twice before and expected it to happen again. Finally, in July, they were able to calm me down and I started learning to trust. It took several more months, but I finally stopped running from the folks I grew to know the most. When people would come see us, though, it was right back to frantic circles. I was definitely not ready for adoption. I had also been (incorrectly) diagnosed with heartworm, so we had to do something soon to treat me. In early 2014, a couple of wonderful supporters and volunteers (Pam and Bonnie) stepped up to help me. They took me into their home with their awesome pack of three and a cat (whom I have never glanced twice at). Slowly but surely, they helped me gain trust, taught me things I needed to know (table manners, how to walk on a leash, playtime and toys), and helped me grow my confidence. I became Hannah v2.0. As it turned out, my growth and confidence began to lead to some challenges with my foster sister, who is pretty confident herself. So, it's time for me to move on to another foster home or (praying for a miracle) a forever one, so I'll never had to adjust or learn to trust again. I am temporarily staying with Chad, who has his own special needs. I am doing well here, but need to move to something more permanent ASAP. We all agree I should not go back to rescue. Although I will be loved there, I will not receive the one-on-one attention I deserve. I've come too far to take any steps backwards. I would really thrive in a new foster/forever home without other dogs or with submissive male dogs. I've been doing fine with Isis and Chad, but trust people a lot more than other dogs right now. I can be a little insecure when another dog gets too close to my crate. Outside of my crate, I'm fine and don't mind sharing toys or space with other dogs. We just all need a strong human to keep everyone secure and relaxed. I would also do best with a human who understands dogs like me and can continue to help me grow and thrive. I have come so far in just nine months; I can't imagine who I will be in another nine. It's just important that I have stability in my life and, as you know, the kennels are no place for that.     Brooklyn here! If you're a JRT rescue advocate on social media, you might have seen me before. It's not often that a northern dog makes a southern trip; quite the opposite with the kill shelter ratio in the South, but you know Mama Donna's heart for those seniors who have lost everything '| My human was too old to take care of me and was sent to a rest home. The family didn't want to care for me, so off I went to the kill shelter. The volunteers the the shelter could not fathom me being put down after all of that loss and they knew I would be, given my health issues. Despite those challenges, I am full of spirit and life and I want to ... (Read More)carry on the legacy of love I knew all of those years. I arrived here in April 2014, but have spent a good portion of it at the vet. I have heart issues, am uncomfortably overweight, have an ongoing respiratory infection and (zoiks!!) I have kidney stones. My heart is too weak to have them removed surgically, so I am now on a special Science Diet s/d to help dissolve the stones. I've passed one, but have more. Despite all of this, I'm still happy and smiling. I love exploring the field and being held. Once I get over this initial hurdle, I am going to make someone else a wonderful senior dog.     Diamond here! I was on the redline list when many people rallied to have me pulled from the kill shelter. They had to scramble to put together another kennel with panel scraps, but they got it done '| They knew, of course, that I was way too beautiful to not have not ended up at the shelter without there being underlying issues. Sure enough, I had kennel cough; fleas had done a job on my rear end; my teeth were worn down and chipped; and '| yes, I'm heartworm positive.     Hello, everyone! I was found alongside the road in the country (in an area where people like to dump dogs) by one of our volunteers - no chip/no collar or tag, starving, dehydrated and covered in fleas. She scooped me up and brought me here to heal. It took a couple of baths, but they finally got all the fleas off me. They named me Kennedy, and they say I am a little joy. Unfortunately, we have discovered in recent months that I have some medical issues. I developed a hump on my back and some instability and stiffness in my hind quarters. They put me through lots of tests and x-rays and found that I have multiple collapsed discs and slight ... (Read More)hip dysplasia in my right rear hip joint. They diagnosed me with something called degenerative arthritis of the spine ...| and they say it's chronic. That means it is likely to progress, but we don't know how quickly or if it even will occur. Doc says I'm not in any pain, though, and it definitely hasn't slowed me down, but ... Kennel life is also making me a little stir crazy. I was a free-roaming country boy at tone time and life in a 10x10 space has given me some obsessive behaviors, like digging ... and not just your normal Jack Russell digging. I mean, nonstop (can't stop) digging! This repetitive action, of course, is not helping my back any. With all that said (sorry to lay so much on you), my rescue folks realize that finding a forever home for me is going to be difficult. Only a few special (and they are definitely special) people ever step up to take on a dog like me, financially and for the long run, but I've heard there are lots of people who like to do this thing called 'foster.' It means you put me in a stable environment with daily direction and the TLC I need, while the rescue helps cover my medical expenses and we all work to find me a forever home. If that sounds like something you might be willing to do, we would love to hear from you. You can find a link to the foster form in the right column. I should let you know that, even though I may have some health issues, I am all boy and very active. I am definitely a Jack Russell! Cats are prey, and I like my space, so I would do best as an only dog or with another dog who is more submissive. I have been in a foster home before and did very well. (Less)

Hunter here! My brother, Parker, and I were scheduled to be put down within hours a few weeks ago at Walton County when their story made its way to this rescue. We were both young boys and were running - no tags, no collars, no one to claim us. One of our volunteers noticed they were redlined, but very young and sweet and it just seemed wrong to let us leave this life so soon. We spent some time in boarding until they had room for us, but now we're here and ready to roll. I am definitely the alpha and would need to be re-homed with submissive dogs. I'm a typical JRT mix with a tail that wags me. I just want to have fun, hunt stuff and play.

Hello, there. Rocky here. The place I previously lived was busted for cruelty and hoarding. I lost several of my friends to malnutrition and neglect, but I made it out alive! Now I'm here and have been told many times that life is about to get really good. I arrived looking pretty good (for our situation). I had a growth on my chest and, like all the other dogs, my teeth were in rough shape. But it didn't take long until they realized that I was losing weight - rapidly. I was a sick boy. The growth turned out to be just a fatty tumor, which we had removed. I also received a dental. (Doc said my teeth were ground down from chewing on the ... (Read More)crate after we were abandoned in our last location.) They treated me for parasites and gave me these yummy satin balls to gain weight. I have improved significantly and am feeling really good now. I could use another pound or two, but Mama Donna says I am ready for happiness. I am probably around 5 years old; it's hard to know for certain. I'm incredibly smart and learn quickly. As you can see from my photos, I can even do some agility and would make a great running companion. I can be a little food aggressive, though, so I would be best as an only dog or in a home where someone understands this and knows how to handle it. (Less)

Actually, I don't think he had a 'use' for me, period - my head is as big as my little body, so I was most likely a 'reject.' Try and tell that to the peoples who take care of me now, though. They call me a 'football with legs' and just adore me. I may be small with a big ole head, but I'm too darn cute for words. Despite these little legs, I love to run and jump. I'm not really a fan of other dogs, though, so I would do best in a one-dog family. I also have a lot of trust issues and can be very shy and scared when I first ... (Read More)meet you, but once I do - game on! Unfortunately, it takes so long for me to warm up that I will probably spend the rest of my Golden Years here. (Less)

Hi, everybody! I was in really neglected shape when I was brought here in the summer of 2011. The ends of my ears were gone. My nails were painfully long. My teeth were bad. I had skin issues and I was missing patches of hair, including my tail. My nails and teeth were taken care of, but it seems that I am allergic to almost everything and everything. Because of that, I am considered 'special needs' and require medication to help limit my scratching. Unfortunately, the medications work for a period of time, then stop working, and I'm back to scratching. You can tell by my pictures that those nasty old allergies are keeping me from being the ... (Read More)beauty queen I really am. I'm an older gal, so I may have to live out my golden years in my room unless someone is willing to give me the attention and vet care I need in a new home. If you are, please don't hesitate to call and come visit me! I'm a fun and spunky girl; I just can't play outdoors a lot right now. (Less)

I was dropped off at JRT rescue several years ago with Eli, my hubby and partner in terrier crime. We were breeder dogs and, much to the dismay of the man who used us for profit, were deemed 'useless' because our babies were coming out 'too small.' He had worse plans for our fate, but fortunately decided to call Mama Donna to come and get us. We are so fortunate she did. I have not been forced to have babies since then and I get to spend every day here with Eli and lots of other funny dogs. I'm an older gal and I have a heart murmur that requires monthly medication. In addition, I am only adoptable as one-half of a pair with Eli, so most ... (Read More)people pass us by. That's OK, we really don't mind since we like it here, but we know that my medicine costs a lot, as does our food and other vet bills. We understand if you're not looking to adopt an aging couple in their golden years, but would definitely appreciate being sponsored. (Less)

Eli here! I am a rock star and I know it. Front stage, center! I am positively gorgeous and funny and, as many visitors have learned over the years, if you can't adopt my wife with me, you can't adopt me. I tried it a couple of times. I ran away to get back to her both times. She and I are an extra-special, dynamic duo. We came here as a breeder drop-off; he said we were 'too old' and he 'had no use' for us anymore. Humans can be silly. We have plenty to offer, especially in the 'ooo-ahh' laugh department. In short, we are now happily 'fixed' and feistier and funnier than ever. We have been here for a long time and, due to aging and my ... (Read More)wife's heart murmur, will probably live out our Golden Years here. I don't mind because my rescue mama and volunteers treat me like gold, but Elanor and I wouldn't mind sitting on a couch for the rest of our lives, either. (Less)

I was dropped off at the Warner Robins shelter in August with nails so long they were literally curling, an ear infection and a plethora of other ailments. Everyone who saw my heart-wrenching shelter photo could not fathom the thought of me ending my life in the shelter and now I won't. Thanks to more than 200 shares on Facebook and several people stepping up to pick me up, sponsor me and transport me here, I am saved! Thank you to everyone! I am still fighting some of my initial infections and I walk a little funny from injuries in early life that were never fixed, but am getting healthier by the day. I will soon be neutered. (Nope, my ... (Read More)owners didn't clip those, either.) After that, I'm all yours! If you like would like an older (I'm about 8 or 9), sweet guy who just likes to hang and be with people, I am your man. We can grow . 'wise' together. (Less)
