I arrived here in April 2014, but have spent a good portion of it at the vet. I have heart issues, am uncomfortably overweight, have an ongoing respiratory infection and (zoiks!!) I have kidney stones. My heart is too weak to have them removed surgically, so I am now on a special Science Diet s/d to help dissolve the stones. I've passed one, but have more. Despite all of this, I'm still happy and smiling. I love exploring the field and being held. Once I get over this initial hurdle, I am going to make someone else a wonderful senior dog. Howdy, big peoples! I'm Damon and I'm a little angel. ;) I was rescued from an out-of-state puppy mill bust in February. My parents unfortunately knew the horrors, but I was lucky enough to have escaped them. With that said, the overbreeding and inbreeding conditions have left me with a neurological condition. My little brain doesn't always communicate with my back legs, so sometimes I appear stiff and/or can even tumble while I play. I don't really care. Millie here! What a year I had in 2013! I was in the 'bad room' at Clayton County Animal Control in late January, facing the Rainbow Bridge, when someone swooped in at the last minute to save me. I had been listed as a 'small JRT boy with a stab wound.' Imagine my angel's surprise when I turned out to a '40-lb Terrier mix girl with a flesh wound.' It didn't matter; she was already in love with me ‰'Û| and I was out of there. They didn't really have a good kennel for me here. Most of their guys and gals are 10-15 lbs. We were both young boys and were running - no tags, no collars, no one to claim us. One of our volunteers noticed they were redlined, but very young and sweet and it just seemed wrong to let us leave this life so soon. Yeah, I know, I'm a little more Rat than Jack, but you know these people ‰'Û| I came from a place that was busted for cruelty and hoarding. (Yes, the same one as Sam, Bailey, Sadie, Pebbles, Rocky and Hannah.) I lost several of my friends to malnutrition and neglect, but I made it out alive! Like Bailey and Sadie, fleas have sadly attributed to some hair loss on my tail and, unfortunately, like Sam, I am heartworm positive. Diamond here! I was on the redline list when many people rallied to have me pulled from the kill shelter. They had to scramble to put together another kennel with panel scraps, but they got it done ‰'Û| They knew, of course, that I was way too beautiful to not have not ended up at the shelter without there being underlying issues. Sure enough, I had kennel cough; fleas had done a job on my rear end; my teeth were worn down and chipped; and ‰'Û| yes, I'm heartworm positive. I am about 4-5 years old and heartworm negative. We just recently discovered that I have a heart murmur. The vet said I don't need any medication at this time and that makes me happy! I know it definitely does not slow me town. I'm all Jack! I have lived in a few foster homes and have learned a little more confidence in each one. I've done great with other dogs and even cats, but am still distrustful of men. Hello, you fine folks! Bert here. I know what you're thinking: 'That ain't no Jack!' I was dumped at the kill shelter a few days before Christmas with my brother Ernie, who is all Jack Russell. Hello, everyone! I was found alongside the road in the country (in an area where people like to dump dogs) by one of our volunteers - no chip/no collar or tag, starving, dehydrated and covered in fleas. She scooped me up and brought me here to heal. It took a couple of baths, but they finally got all the fleas off me. They named me Kennedy, and they say I am a little joy. Unfortunately, we have discovered in recent months that I have some medical issues. I developed a hump on my back and some instability and stiffness in my hind quarters. They put me through lots of tests and x-rays and found that I have multiple collapsed discs and slight ... (Read More)hip dysplasia in my right rear hip joint. They diagnosed me with something called degenerative arthritis of the spine ...| and they say it's chronic. That means it is likely to progress, but we don't know how quickly or if it even will occur. Doc says I'm not in any pain, though, and it definitely hasn't slowed me down, but ... Kennel life is also making me a little stir crazy. I was a free-roaming country boy at tone time and life in a 10x10 space has given me some obsessive behaviors, like digging ... and not just your normal Jack Russell digging. I mean, nonstop (can't stop) digging! This repetitive action, of course, is not helping my back any. With all that said (sorry to lay so much on you), my rescue folks realize that finding a forever home for me is going to be difficult. Only a few special (and they are definitely special) people ever step up to take on a dog like me, financially and for the long run, but I've heard there are lots of people who like to do this thing called 'foster.' It means you put me in a stable environment with daily direction and the TLC I need, while the rescue helps cover my medical expenses and we all work to find me a forever home. I should let you know that, even though I may have some health issues, I am all boy and very active. I am definitely a Jack Russell! Chad here. My beloved and belated wife, Clarisse, and I were left behind at an abandoned house by our family; they moved out and left us with several other big dogs to fend for ourselves. Hello, there. Rocky here. The place I previously lived was busted for cruelty and hoarding. I lost several of my friends to malnutrition and neglect, but I made it out alive! Now I'm here and have been told many times that life is about to get really good. I arrived looking pretty good (for our situation). I had a growth on my chest and, like all the other dogs, my teeth were in rough shape. But it didn't take long until they realized that I was losing weight - rapidly. I was a sick boy. The growth turned out to be just a fatty tumor, which we had removed. I also received a dental. (Doc said my teeth were ground down from chewing on the ... I have improved significantly and am feeling really good now. I could use another pound or two, but Mama Donna says I am ready for happiness. As you can see from my photos, I can even do some agility and would make a great running companion. I can be a little food aggressive, though, so I would be best as an only dog or in a home where someone understands this and knows how to handle it. Hi, everybody! I was in really neglected shape when I was brought here in the summer of 2011. The ends of my ears were gone. My nails were painfully long. My teeth were bad. I had skin issues and I was missing patches of hair, including my tail. My nails and teeth were taken care of, but it seems that I am allergic to almost everything and everything. We were breeder dogs and, much to the dismay of the man who used us for profit, were deemed 'useless' because our babies were coming out 'too small.' I was on death row at animal control when they called to let this rescue know there was a super-cute 'n super-silly JRT looking for a second chance. They couldn't say no. Look at me - who can?!
