Howdy, y'all! Mavis here. I know, I know, I'm adorable! At least, that's what they all keep telling me here '| I recently arrived from the kill shelter, and they haven't stopped cooing over me. What can I say, I'm a young, friendly, fun girl who is full of puppy energy and likes to give kisses. I am spayed, house trained, up-to-date on all of my shots and get along great with children. What's not to love?! Just one thing, unfortunately '| I am heartworm positive and will need to be treated. Like my kennel mates in the same situation (Zeus and Duke), I would do best in a foster home to heal and get ready for my forever home. I really ... (Read More)love being with people and get so excited when I see you. I really don't like it here in the kennels and would love to be a foster/forever home instead of rescue. (Less)

Hi, folks! Let me introduce myself '| My name is Duke, and I am about the sweetest thing you'll ever meet. I arrived from the kill shelter in July 2014 and, like many dogs who first land at rescue, was in need of some TLC. I'm about 5-6 years old and short, but was a hefty 20+ lbs, so we had to take off some weight '| while we put my fur back on! I had quite a bit of hair loss (due to fleas and/or allergies) on my back and tail. In fact, they were calling me a 'little lion' because I only had a tuft of hair at the end of my long tail when I arrived. Some fabulous ointment and a new diet have helped take care of all of that, and I look ... (Read More)positively adorable now! I am now in a wonderful foster home with my foster brother Murray and sister Sophie. I love being with people again and can't wait to find my forever home. My foster mom Ava has been giving me lots of love and taking me on trips to PetSmart and other places to share my handsome availability. I'm now neutered, up-to-date on all of my shots and ready to roll home with you. As you can see, I'm fine with other dogs. I just love to be me. (Less)

Health: Neutered, Blind

Hello, world! I'm Floyd. If you follow Dekalb Rescue's page, you may have seen the 'heartbreaking' photo of me in July of 2014. I ended up at the shelter at 12 years old with cataracts and a heart murmur and lots of fine folks set out to share and plea for a rescue for me. One of those pleas made it to these folks and, well, you know the soft spot they have for older guys and gals like me. I have been in foster care since being saved and am doing great. My foster mom has 'forever fostered' several seniors and special-needs dogs like myself over the years for rescue, including Jerry Lee. She said she's willing to do it again for me. Yippee! ... (Read More)But we know there are plenty of other big-hearted people out there who have a soft spot for guys like me, so we're sharing my story in hopes that maybe I'll find a forever home and/or a sponsor. My foster mom says I'm a great little dog. I've already learned my way around the house, inside and out. I can follow voices, am house-trained and well-behaved. I get along great with all of the people and other dogs here. Doc says I'm in pretty good health. I definitely needed a dental, which I just had (see my pic of me comforting my foster brother, who had bladder stone surgery). I could possibly be a candidate for cataracts surgery, if someone was willing to help me with it. I know that's a lot to ask, but I believe in miracles. After all, I'm here! (Less)

Whadda ya mean, 'I ain't no Jack!' I, like all of these little brown and white dogs around me, was a rescue five years ago when someone very close to Mama Donna scooped me up and showed me love like I've never known. I spent my formative years, sleeping in bed with my young mom and discovering the wonders of the world. Unfortunately, my mama is now going through some stuff during which she can no longer keep me. She would give anything in the world to do so, but knows that I am better off here for now. There is no quick and easy resolution to what is happening in her world, so she and Donna have decided it's best for me to find a good home ... (Read More)'| as much as it's breaking their hearts to let me go. I am a big 'n beautiful, laid-back Lab girl. I'm about six years old, housebroken and crate-trained. I love toys and just hanging out, like any good girl. I'm very sweet, live for belly rubs and I love being the clown. I come when I'm called, am very food-motivated (as you can see; we're working on those extra pounds) and sit patiently on command. Please, share me with your friends who are looking for big dogs and/or sappy, happy Labs like myself. (Less)

Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Hi, there! I woke up at the Fayette County Shelter known as Dodger in late July. My listing said I was not able to relax or trust people and I was 'not showing well.' That lasted until about 11 o'clock when two lovely ladies from Georgia Jack Russell Rescue showed up to meet me and see what I am really like. They did all kinds of 'tests' and, apparently, I passed them with flying colors because they 'sprung' me from that place within an hour. They renamed me Eddie because, well, we already have a gorgeous Dodger at rescue now and they thought I needed a 'handsome name' that accentuated my 'Jack Russelll'ness.' After they sprung me, they ... (Read More)took me to 'the vets' and did more tests on me. Once again, I passed this thing known as the 'heartworm test' with flying colors. They were really excited about that. I guess a lot of dogs from the shelter like me don't pass that one, but I did. Woohoo! I'm now at this place they call 'the ranch' and ready for a new home. They are pretty certain I had a house at one point because I'm 'kind of' housebroken and I can sit like a pro for treat. My focus is pretty incredible, even with distractions like other dogs around me. I'm very smart and could possibly learn agility or other sports. The vet says I'm about 6 years old, not hyper but not lazy - I am the (dare I say it?) perfect Jack! I even get along well with other dogs '| especially the girls. ;) (Less)

Rat Terrier Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Low Energy, Very Submissive
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Howdy, folks! 'Sparky the Fire Dog' here. I was adopted from the kill shelter with my scruffy Jack Russell sister Roxy (who has already been adopted), then returned for a reason the people here don't know why. They just knew what that meant for me: I would be redlined and put down immediately. I was so sweet and gentle and wonderful and '| hey '| how could I not go on to touch everyone's hearts? Nope, I couldn't. I'm a very young (only about a year or two) boy who is very submissive. So submissive that I really didn't want to stand up for photos. I was much more comfortable being in Mama Donna's arms and/or rolling over for belly ... (Read More)scratches. I also like to dig. We're going to work on my insecurities and turn me into a confident, young man. If you're interested in doing so for or with us, we would love that, too! I'm neutered and have had all my shots, but my previous family didn't think heartworm testing was important. Yeah, don't get us started on that. I still need to be tested for that, but am ready to go otherwise. (Less)

Jack Russell    Age: Young Adult

Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Hello, world! Gorgeous Sasha here. In May of 2014, several members of Team Russell (our volunteer group) saw me in a shelter photo and it broke their hearts. I was with my one surviving puppy (I had already lost two). I was terrified, scared of the fate of my puppy and me. The look on my face was so hopeless. The rescue was in no position to take on another dog at the time, much less a mama/puppy, but they couldn't stand the thought of us perishing at the shelter. Some phone calls were made between all the right people, and we both were pulled and taken to temporary foster care. My baby grew up and has gone on to a forever home '| and ... (Read More)now I am here, looking for mine. I am still settling in and am a little shy with people and protective around dogs. That comes from taking care of my babies. I'm sure I will adjust just fine, though, in the hands of anyone who has had a Terrier mama. They are spending a little time, getting to know me better and making sure I'm healthy and ready to go, but we wanted everyone to know that I'm safe and sound. I'm a beautiful, young girl (probably only about a year or two and the average 14-15 Jack lbs.) and I can't wait for the next chapter in my life. (Less)

Personality: Average Energy, Very Submissive
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current, Abused/Neglected,
 Fearful/Anxious

Hello, big world. Hannah here. My profile is new to the website, but I'm not. I have been with the rescue since April of 2013 when several of my kennel mates and I were saved from a rescue that had neglected us. We saw many of our friends lose their lives before we were saved, but we were the lucky ones '| or so I was told. I sure didn't feel so lucky back then. My kennel mate, whom I really trusted, was taken from me during the seizure, and I ended up at the rescue, alone and terrified. For three months, Mama Donna and the volunteers tried to get me to trust them, but I spent most of my time running in circles in my kennel, wondering ... (Read More)what was going to happen. I had been betrayed twice before and expected it to happen again. Finally, in July, they were able to calm me down and I started learning to trust. It took several more months, but I finally stopped running from the folks I grew to know the most. When people would come see us, though, it was right back to frantic circles. I was definitely not ready for adoption. I had also been (incorrectly) diagnosed with heartworm, so we had to do something soon to treat me. In early 2014, a couple of wonderful supporters and volunteers (Pam and Bonnie) stepped up to help me. They took me into their home with their awesome pack of three and a cat (whom I have never glanced twice at). Slowly but surely, they helped me gain trust, taught me things I needed to know (table manners, how to walk on a leash, playtime and toys), and helped me grow my confidence. I became Hannah v2.0. As it turned out, my growth and confidence began to lead to some challenges with my foster sister, who is pretty confident herself. So, it's time for me to move on to another foster home or (praying for a miracle) a forever one, so I'll never had to adjust or learn to trust again. I am temporarily staying with Chad, who has his own special needs. I am doing well here, but need to move to something more permanent ASAP. We all agree I should not go back to rescue. Although I will be loved there, I will not receive the one-on-one attention I deserve. I've come too far to take any steps backwards. I would really thrive in a new foster/forever home without other dogs or with submissive male dogs. I've been doing fine with Isis and Chad, but trust people a lot more than other dogs right now. I can be a little insecure when another dog gets too close to my crate. Outside of my crate, I'm fine and don't mind sharing toys or space with other dogs. We just all need a strong human to keep everyone secure and relaxed. I would also do best with a human who understands dogs like me and can continue to help me grow and thrive. I have come so far in just nine months; I can't imagine who I will be in another nine. It's just important that I have stability in my life and, as you know, the kennels are no place for that.     Hello, everyone! Zeus is my name '| or at least that's what my tags said when I was picked up while roaming. Several attempts were made to contact my family, but no one ever called back. We were able to get ahold of my paperwork, but it said I was 10 and deaf. Hm, no, not quite. I can hear a treat bag from a mile away and I am full of puppy energy with pearly white teeth. I'm probably actually around 2-3 years old. My only 'issue?' I am currently heartworm positive '| but that's nothing new around here. We'll beat it. I have been living with Carson (a former GA JRT rescue) and his parents in foster care the past couple of weeks while I ... (Read More)went through intake and got 'tutored.' It's been a great experience. According to my foster parents, I'm 'completely crate trained, housebroken and wonderfully behaved.' Oh, sure, I jump occasionally, but what Terrier doesn't? I co-exist great with Carson and should adapt fine in a multi-dog household. I'm a little bigger than your regular Jack and am definitely a Terrier mix. But I'm just as handsome as they come and ready to find my forever home once again. (Less)

We were both young boys and were running - no tags, no collars, no one to claim us.     Hi, there! I'm Dixie and I just landed here in the 'heart of the south' rescue. Yeah, I know, I'm a little more Rat than Jack, but you know these people '| I came from a place that was busted for cruelty and hoarding. (Yes, the same one as Sam, Bailey, Sadie, Pebbles, Rocky and Hannah.) I lost several of my friends to malnutrition and neglect, but I made it out alive! I have been staying in foster care, but my time ran out. I needed to go somewhere '| quickly. They had to do some shuffling, but they found a space for me. Not sure how they do this all the time for dogs like me'| I just know it takes them a long time to scoop, feed and ... (Read More)clean all of us everyday '| and they all have jobs '| I am such a sweet, gentle girl; a little skittish with strange new objects (took me awhile to warm up to the camera), but very loving and willing to trust. I have a couple of swollen nipples they are concerned about, so I need to see the vet. I've apparently had babies recently, so that may be why. Like Bailey and Sadie, fleas have sadly attributed to some hair loss on my tail and, unfortunately, like Sam, I am heartworm positive. I will need to go through slow-kill treatments before I will be available for adoption; however, we are open to a foster home for me in which to heal during the time I need to stay calm and let the treatments do their work.     I am about 4-5 years old and heartworm negative. We just recently discovered that I have a heart murmur. The vet said I don't need any medication at this time and that makes me happy! I know it definitely does not slow me town. I'm all Jack! I have lived in a few foster homes and have learned a little more confidence in each one. I've done great with other dogs and even cats, but am still distrustful of men. My current foster dad is working with me a lot, helping me trust and grow, and mom says things are going incredibly well. I have bonded very well with all of my foster mothers and hope to find a permanent mom soon! I'm a funny l'il ... (Read More)guy who loves to be petted. I also love chasing balls, playing with my foster sister Isis and, yes, hunting a little. I am awesome at loose-leash walking and very well-mannered. I'm gentle, sweet and despite having lived in different homes, very trusting and loyal to women. A couple more weeks with my new foster daddy and I may finally be able to say that about men, too.     Hello, everyone! I was found alongside the road in the country (in an area where people like to dump dogs) by one of our volunteers - no chip/no collar or tag, starving, dehydrated and covered in fleas. She scooped me up and brought me here to heal. It took a couple of baths, but they finally got all the fleas off me. They named me Kennedy, and they say I am a little joy. Unfortunately, we have discovered in recent months that I have some medical issues. I developed a hump on my back and some instability and stiffness in my hind quarters. They put me through lots of tests and x-rays and found that I have multiple collapsed discs and slight ... (Read More)hip dysplasia in my right rear hip joint. They diagnosed me with something called degenerative arthritis of the spine ...| and they say it's chronic. That means it is likely to progress, but we don't know how quickly or if it even will occur. Doc says I'm not in any pain, though, and it definitely hasn't slowed me down, but ... Kennel life is also making me a little stir crazy. I was a free-roaming country boy at tone time and life in a 10x10 space has given me some obsessive behaviors, like digging ... and not just your normal Jack Russell digging. I mean, nonstop (can't stop) digging! This repetitive action, of course, is not helping my back any. With all that said (sorry to lay so much on you), my rescue folks realize that finding a forever home for me is going to be difficult. Only a few special (and they are definitely special) people ever step up to take on a dog like me, financially and for the long run, but I've heard there are lots of people who like to do this thing called 'foster.' It means you put me in a stable environment with daily direction and the TLC I need, while the rescue helps cover my medical expenses and we all work to find me a forever home. If that sounds like something you might be willing to do, we would love to hear from you. You can find a link to the foster form in the right column. I should let you know that, even though I may have some health issues, I am all boy and very active. I am definitely a Jack Russell! Cats are prey, and I like my space, so I would do best as an only dog or with another dog who is more submissive. I have been in a foster home before and did very well. (Less)

Chad here. My beloved and belated wife, Clarisse, and I were left behind at an abandoned house by our family; they moved out and left us with several other big dogs to fend for ourselves. The bigger dogs went after me and left me with a nasty wound on my leg, then someone aware of our situation picked us up and took us to Clayton County Animal Shelter. Our sad story made its way to people who care and we were pulled from the kill shelter. My infection was so bad and untreated, their experienced transport could barely stand the smell - but she knew we were special. I have now healed and am doing great in my foster home. Unfortunately, I lost ... (Read More)Clarisse while she was going through her heartworm treatment. It was too advanced, and she was too weak from everything we had been through to fight it. My heart still aches for her, but I'm ready for a new start. I am about 3-4 years old, heartworm negative and ready to move on to the next stage in life. I have been through a lot and will need a patient owner who understands JRTs like me. (Less)
