Jack Russell    Age: Senior

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs
Personality: Low Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Hello, two-leggeds! Little Chloe here. It's been a rough run of things lately, but I know it's going to get better. Look at my sweet face '| how could it not?! My 6-year-old sister and I were surrendered to another rescue because my family was moving and they couldn't take us with them. My sister was scooped up by an awesome family, but they couldn't take both of us. So now I am starting all over again at 12 years old, living outdoors for the first time (although Mama Donna often takes me inside at night to spoil me), and trying to adapt to such major changes. The folks here are fostering me and giving me lots of TLC. I'm a little ... (Read More)overweight, but that's nothing we can't handle with a good diet and some exercise. I also have some allergies and, right now, my tummy is a little troubled after all of the stress. So they're still working to get me all vetted and ready, as well as build my profile, but they wanted to let you know that I'm here. If you know of anyone looking for an older gal who is both feisty and laid-back and who gets along fine with other dogs (I love to play!), please let them know I'll be available soo (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 15-05-19-00137Decker (male)

Jack Russell    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Not Good with Other Dogs
Personality: Very High Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Hey, folks! Decker here, and I'm not going to beat around the bush '| although I may pee on it! He-he. I'm a bit of a wild child! Getting me to sit still for photos was a challenge. I was much more interested in exploring and chasing after critters and passersby than focusing on treats and manners. That's not to say I didn't eventually give in, so there's a chance I could make a good agility, racing or flyball dog. I'm about 3-4 years old, but have the leash and social skills of a pup '| not to mention the energy of one! It's probably the reason my family moved and left me behind at the house to fend for my own. I ended up in a South ... (Read More)Carolina kill shelter, then at another rescue, who reached out to us for help in re-homing me. Mama Donna and the team are going to help me find the right Jack-savvy family to help me harness my energy and focus it on great things. I will need a new parent/family who has plenty of Jack experience and some training under their belts. In short, I am not for a first-time adopter. I absolutely love people, but can be a little assertive around other dogs. I am not aggressive; I just need some positive correction and direction in how to approach them. (Less)

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs
Personality: Average Energy, Submissive
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Howdy, folks! Sweetie Petey here. I've been here since the spring of 2015. I was at another rescue and came here to stay for a little while. They fell in love with me so much, they wanted to keep me. I love being loved on, so '| all righty, then! I'll stay until you find me a new place to play. I'm an incredibly sweet, somewhat-timid boy who isn't quite sure about sudden movements just yet '| but I'm getting used to it. There's lots of stuff to love, like yummy treats and back scratch-eez. I'm a handsome Jack/Rat/tri-color Terrier mix around 18 lbs. and 2 years old. I am heartworm positive, but am currently being treated with slow-kill ... (Read More)and should be just fine. I enjoy running, am treat-motivated, and get along well with other dogs and people. I just need you to reassure me that everything is OK. (Less)

Hey, there! Yep, you bet, I'm freakin' adorable! Two rescues in Oklahoma and Alabama told the folks here about me in the spring of 2015. I was surrendered to a shelter in Alabama because my owner couldn't keep me due to medical issues. The OK rescue was too far, and the AL rescue who pulled me has a hard time placing Jacks. We decided to tag-team and bring me here. Unfortunately, we all quickly realized that something was wrong with my back legs. X-rays were ran, and it appeared that I had been hit by a car and had a broken pelvis and knee socket issues. One of our awesome volunteers drove to our neighboring state and brought me to the ... (Read More)rescue (after a couple of fun foster days with Pumpkin, Susie and Chuckie!). Our vet prepared for surgery to help my legs, but first he ran some 'heavy-duty, uber-special' X-rays and noticed that I was already starting to heal on my own and, within just a couple of days, appeared to be walking and feeling much better. What can I say, I was healing myself! We decided that surgery would be more painful for me than doing this thing naturally. I may have a little arthritis later in life, but for now? I'm barely a year old, all puppy, and nothing can slow me down '| although they are having to make me do just that. I am on 10 weeks of mandatory rest and, as of today (May 18), I am a little more than halfway through. That would be an issue for most Jack Russells, but not for me. Why? I can literally rest in your arms or lie in your lap for hours. No, seriously - hours! Some of the volunteers just give up getting anything done on the weekends to rock with me on the porch '| and I love it! They want to make sure I go through my full recovery time and thoroughly heal before making me available for adoption. I also need to be 'tutored.' But I'm such a special boy, we wanted to give you a heads up that I'm here and I'll hopefully be ready for foster/adoption in early to mid-June. I am currently available for sponsorship, if you'd like to help pay for my vet bills. (Less)

Hi, there. Little Buster Boy here and I was a total surprise! One of Team Russell's most awesome volunteers, supporters and adopted parents was on her way to work in early 2015 when she saw me crouched down by the center traffic island on a four-land road. Even though I was badly injured and snapped at her when she tried to check on me, she pulled a little dog whisperer trick on me and convinced me to let her pick me up and rush me to a nearby bet. I did not have a collar, a tag or a chip, but I did have a broken left leg above the knee and tons of road rash on my ear legs and man parts. I had to have surgery to have a stainless steel pin ... (Read More)inserted into my broken leg. Suffice to say, it took me some time and about $4,000 in vet bills to heal, but hey! I'm worth every penny. I hope to finally have my pin moved in late May and will be ready to roll to a new home. I'm a Rat-Chi-Terrier mix, about 2 years old, and a whole 7 lbs.! I'm heartworm free, neutered, and get along wonderfully with everyone, including other dogs. (Less)

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs

Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Hello, world! Barkley here. I arrived here in early 2015 with my daughter, Pinky. She got scooped up right away, but I have been working on becoming a 'regular' dog. I am handsome beyond words, so I have spent most of my life making cute puppies like me. And, hey, I rocked it! But, like my rescue mate Eli, I'm retired now '| That said, some things were new to me - like trusting people as 'parents' (I still don't like looking you in the eye and can sometimes be shy), walking on a leash and just being a puppy myself. But I've come around a lot lately and am such a special, curly-haired little lamb of a man. I think I'm ready to move into a ... (Read More)home with someone who understands me and wants to teach me how to be a pet. I'm around 4 years old, up-to-date on everything, heartworm-free, and I absolutely love other dogs. What can I say, I loved being a father! I'm not very treat motivated or into these agility things they try to introduce me to. Humans can be so silly. (Less)

Howdy! I'm Howie! I've been here for a few months after a Team Russell volunteer passed me several times on the road and found me abandoned, cold and shivering. She couldn't stand me suffering, so she picked me up and took me here. I did not look like this when I first arrived. I was overgrown, full of fleas, and looking quite like a hot mess. They have spent weeks trying to find my owner (no collar, no chip) and had me groomed. I get along great with all people and other dogs. I'm very sweet and great-natured. I'm post likely a Shih Tzu mix. They don't really know. They deal with Jack Russells.

Jack Russell Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs
Personality: Average Energy, Very Submissive
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current, Fearful/Anxious

Hi, humans. I'm Lily Belle and I'm probably one of the best-kept secrets at rescue. In fact, a lot of the volunteers don't even know about me. I arrived last year with several other dogs who were dumped outside the kill shelter by a backyard breeder. The other dogs were fairly socialized or adjusted to strange humans; I was not. I was terrified of everyone and hid in my doghouse every time anyone tried to come near me. I needed to be treated for heartworms, though, so I was lucky enough to land a place at the 'senior/foster center' with Floyd and the others while I adjusted and became more confident. It's taken me awhile to get used to ... (Read More)everything - and I mean everything, from walking on a leash to learning how to be a 'normal' dog. We were never given that opportunity at our puppy mill. I think I may be ready to meet the right person now, though. If you are willing to be patient and love me, I may/will be doing the same with you. We will just need to meet and see. Although I'm shy, I'm also very sweet, quiet and playful once you get to know me. My foster family says I'm no problem at all. I'm about 2 years old, around 13 lbs., crate-trained, housebroken, and get along with other dogs! Not all of those dogs at rescue can say that! (Less)

Howdy, y'all! Little Penny here. I was at another rescue, but decided I wanted to chase some chickens and, well, that didn't work out very well. They decided it would be best to move me here, where I don't have so many irresistible opportunities to chase prey '| but, hey, I bet I'd be great at barn hunting! I really want to be in a house, though, so it would be great if we could quickly get me into a foster or forever home. I love people and am not crazy about this 1010 yard of mine. I'm a strong, healthy (could use a pound or two) young girl about 2-3 years old, am heartworm negative, spayed and ready to roll. I get along with most ... Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Hello, peeps! My name is Andrea %BD'%BD| although they have been calling me 'Happy' after a funny misunderstanding on my Facebook shelter thread %BD'%BD| and 'Snowball' because, look at me! You can refer to me as any of those. I was scheduled to be put down after being at Macon-Bibb County Animal Welfare since early December. My Beagle sister, Gin Gin, and I losts our human in November %BD'%BD| then Gin Gin got adopted and I losts her, too. Lots of people rallied together, posted pledges and, on a Tuesday and Wednesday when no one really had time, stitched together an escape plan for me to come here. Somehow, someway, everyone ... (Read More)made it happen (during a time when they really can't take any more dogs here) and now I'm safe, sound and getting ready for my new life. I even had time to stop by the vet. He says I'm about 2 years old, I look great overall, he gave me all of my shots, and found me to be heartworm negative (woo-hoo!). I can be a little nervous around people at first, but am easily won over by a treat. I'm part Doxie, so you knows I gots moxie! I miss my sister and am very interested in the other dogs here. It would be great if we could get me back into a home with another canine companion to call my own. (Less)

Howdy, folks! Flash here, and I was a pleasant surprise. A couple of Team Russell members came to Clayton County A/C to evaluate another Jack for another rescue in early December. I hadn't been posted online or shared, so they weren't expecting to see me there. Sur-prise! They took photos and some video of me to network me, but they sent them to Mama Donna first. That was all the networking I needed. She took one look at me, fell in love with the 'kiss' on my forehead, and that was that. I was rescued! I have a little bit o'Whippet/Greyhound in me, so they called me 'Flash.' I am a food-motivated boy who enjoys some independent outdoor ... (Read More)time. (What Jack doesn't?) I live up to my name and am as fast as Flash. I'd love to find someone who is active and loves to run. I can be a little protective if other dogs come too close to my crate, but am fine with them otherwise. I'm young (about 1-2 years old) and up-to-date on all of my shots. I am slightly heartworm positive, but am on slow-kill and should be just fine. Please give me love! (Less)

Compatibility: Good w/ Male Dogs Only, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Very Submissive
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current, Abused/Neglected,
 Fearful/Anxious

Hello, big world. Hannah here. My profile is new to the website, but I'm not. I have been with the rescue since April of 2013 when several of my kennel mates and I were saved from a rescue that had neglected us. We saw many of our friends lose their lives before we were saved, but we were the lucky ones '| or so I was told. I sure didn't feel so lucky back then. My kennel mate, whom I really trusted, was taken from me during the seizure, and I ended up at the rescue, alone and terrified. For three months, Mama Donna and the volunteers tried to get me to trust them, but I spent most of my time running in circles in my kennel, wondering ... (Read More)what was going to happen. I had been betrayed twice before and expected it to happen again. Finally, in July, they were able to calm me down and I started learning to trust. It took several more months, but I finally stopped running from the folks I grew to know the most. When people would come see us, though, it was right back to frantic circles. I was definitely not ready for adoption. I had also been (incorrectly) diagnosed with heartworm, so we had to do something soon to treat me. In early 2014, a couple of wonderful supporters and volunteers (Pam and Bonnie) stepped up to help me. They took me into their home with their awesome pack of three and a cat (whom I have never glanced twice at). Slowly but surely, they helped me gain trust, taught me things I needed to know (table manners, how to walk on a leash, playtime and toys), and helped me grow my confidence. I became Hannah v2.0. As it turned out, my growth and confidence began to lead to some challenges with my foster sister, who is pretty confident herself. So, it's time for me to move on to another foster home or (praying for a miracle) a forever one, so I'll never had to adjust or learn to trust again. I am temporarily staying with Chad, who has his own special needs. I am doing well here, but need to move to something more permanent ASAP. We all agree I should not go back to rescue. Although I will be loved there, I will not receive the one-on-one attention I deserve. I've come too far to take any steps backwards. I would really thrive in a new foster/forever home without other dogs or with submissive male dogs. I've been doing fine with Isis and Chad, but trust people a lot more than other dogs right now. I can be a little insecure when another dog gets too close to my crate. Outside of my crate, I'm fine and don't mind sharing toys or space with other dogs. We just all need a strong human to keep everyone secure and relaxed. I would also do best with a human who understands dogs like me and can continue to help me grow and thrive. I have come so far in just nine months; I can't imagine who I will be in another nine. It's just important that I have stability in my life and, as you know, the kennels are no place for that. We were both young boys and were running - no tags, no collars, no one to claim us. One of our volunteers noticed they were redlined, but very young and sweet and it just seemed wrong to let us leave this life so soon. We spent some time in boarding until they had room for us, but now we're here and ready to roll. I am definitely the alpha and would need to be re-homed with no other or very submissive dogs.     Hi, there! I'm Dixie and I just landed here in the 'heart of the south' rescue. Yeah, I know, I'm a little more Rat than Jack, but you know these people '| I came from a place that was busted for cruelty and hoarding. (Yes, the same one as Sam, Bailey, Sadie, Pebbles, Rocky and Hannah.) I lost several of my friends to malnutrition and neglect, but I made it out alive! I have been staying in foster care, but my time ran out. I needed to go somewhere '| quickly. They had to do some shuffling, but they found a space for me. Not sure how they do this all the time for dogs like me'| I just know it takes them a long time to scoop, feed and ... (Read More)clean all of us everyday '| and they all have jobs '| I am such a sweet, gentle girl; a little skittish with strange new objects (took me awhile to warm up to the camera), but very loving and willing to trust. I have a couple of swollen nipples they are concerned about, so I need to see the vet. I've apparently had babies recently, so that may be why. Like Bailey and Sadie, fleas have sadly attributed to some hair loss on my tail and, unfortunately, like Sam, I am heartworm positive. I will need to go through slow-kill treatments before I will be available for adoption; however, we are open to a foster home for me in which to heal during the time I need to stay calm and let the treatments do their work.     Hello, there. Rocky here. The place I previously lived was busted for cruelty and hoarding. I lost several of my friends to malnutrition and neglect, but I made it out alive! Now I'm here and have been told many times that life is about to get really good. I arrived looking pretty good (for our situation). I had a growth on my chest and, like all the other dogs, my teeth were in rough shape. But it didn't take long until they realized that I was losing weight - rapidly. I was a sick boy. The growth turned out to be just a fatty tumor, which we had removed. I also received a dental. (Doc said my teeth were ground down from chewing on the ... (Read More)crate after we were abandoned in our last location.) They treated me for parasites and gave me these yummy satin balls to gain weight. I have improved significantly and am feeling really good now. I could use another pound or two, but Mama Donna says I am ready for happiness. I am probably around 5 years old; it's hard to know for certain. I'm incredibly smart and learn quickly. As you can see from my photos, I can even do some agility and would make a great running companion. I can be a little food aggressive, though, so I would be best as an only dog or in a home where someone understands this and knows how to handle it. (Less)

Hey, tall peoples! I'm Slick and I came here from the same breeder with Eli and Elanor who 'had no use' for me anymore. Actually, I don't think he had a 'use' for me, period - my head is as big as my little body, so I was most likely a 'reject.' Try and tell that to the peoples who take care of me now, though. They call me a 'football with legs' and just adore me. I may be small with a big ole head, but I'm too darn cute for words. Despite these little legs, I love to run and jump.     Hi, everybody! I was in really neglected shape when I was brought here in the summer of 2011. The ends of my ears were gone. My nails were painfully long. My teeth were bad. I had skin issues and I was missing patches of hair, including my tail. My nails and teeth were taken care of, but it seems that I am allergic to almost everything and everything. Because of that, I am considered 'special needs' and require medication to help limit my scratching. Unfortunately, the medications work for a period of time, then stop working, and I'm back to scratching. You can tell by my pictures that those nasty old allergies are keeping me from being the ... (Read More)beauty queen I really am. I'm an older gal, so I may have to live out my golden years in my room unless someone is willing to give me the attention and vet care I need in a new home. If you are, please don't hesitate to call and come visit me! I'm a fun and spunky girl; I just can't play outdoors a lot right now. (Less)

I was dropped off at JRT rescue several years ago with Eli, my hubby and partner in terrier crime. We were breeder dogs and, much to the dismay of the man who used us for profit, were deemed 'useless' because our babies were coming out 'too small.' He had worse plans for our fate, but fortunately decided to call Mama Donna to come and get us. We are so fortunate she did. I have not been forced to have babies since then and I get to spend every day here with Eli and lots of other funny dogs. I'm an older gal and I have a heart murmur that requires monthly medication. In addition, I am only adoptable as one-half of a pair with Eli, so most ... (Read More)people pass us by. That's OK, we really don't mind since we like it here, but we know that my medicine costs a lot, as does our food and other vet bills. We understand if you're not looking to adopt an aging couple in their golden years, but would definitely appreciate being sponsored. (Less)

Eli here! I am a rock star and I know it. Front stage, center! I am positively gorgeous and funny and, as many visitors have learned over the years, if you can't adopt my wife with me, you can't adopt me. I tried it a couple of times. I ran away to get back to her both times. She and I are an extra-special, dynamic duo. We came here as a breeder drop-off; he said we were 'too old' and he 'had no use' for us anymore. Humans can be silly. We have plenty to offer, especially in the 'ooo-ahh' laugh department. In short, we are now happily 'fixed' and feistier and funnier than ever. We have been here for a long time and, due to aging and my ... (Read More)wife's heart murmur, will probably live out our Golden Years here. I don't mind because my rescue mama and volunteers treat me like gold, but Elanor and I wouldn't mind sitting on a couch for the rest of our lives, either. (Less)
